The cushions are finished.

I have finished the stitching of the cushions for the sofa.  And what a colourful addition they make too.

I am loving the chicken/rooster look.  And it is nice to have them out of their bags and actually being used.

I have a couple more projects I have started, which will keep me busy.  Its fun trying new things and wondering how they will start and turn out.

Last night when Nadia went back to school, she asked if she could take back some wool and needles, so she could knit scarves with the other Year 8 & 9 students.  It must be pretty boring looking after the younger kids at night times, especially if they go straight to bed

Some more knitting on the list - I think....

I don't want to encourage Winter to come along, but I am encouraging different craft bits and pieces to keep the mind and body active. LOL.  But I also enjoy making for others.

A few purchases arrived today....to actually make and to keep myself warm.

Firstly knitting.  2 things.  The first is a shawl I will make.  Just making up the style as I go.  A triangle shawl.  Something large and cosy to wrap myself in,  when it gets chilly.  Somthing I can wear out dressed up or casual with jeans.  And something in merino, mohair kid, alpaca mix that will be pretty much impractical when it comes to not picking up fluff and bits and pieces.  So everything fits the description...even the dark colours of black, purples and green.  Totally impractical.  I got a bit of this wool when I was staying in Christchuch for radiation 6 years ago.

Should work.  I am hoping it will.  Will be nice and cuddly if nothing else.

Colours of black, purple and forest green - they look different in real life.

Hard to pick up the colours. Will try to get a better pic in the future.  Outside maybe.

Another knitting purchase arrived.  This is a sock kit.  This will be interesting, because I have never knitted socks before.  There is a first time for everything.  Green and purple for these colours.  I don't stray from colour options do I!  I did struggle with the order and got it wrong, but the shop owner allowed it and charged me less.  Because of that she will get another sale.  Bless her.

Another surprise that arrived to cheer me up, was the book '20 mini cross stitch designs' by Michael Powell.  I love his quirky  designs. The small ones are so cute.  I love cute.  After talking about cupcakes the other day I am ecstatic to find a cup cake pattern in there.  Fabulous surprise.

And lastly I ordered some teas for myself from the The T Leaf T shop in Wellington.  I have gone off coffee quite a bit and I love the flavoured green and black teas.

Well thanks for visiting.  I am getting a few more 'off blog emails'   Hopefully things will start to work, and I can read some feedback and comments, which is what I want., It is actually easier to leave comments here than leaving stuff on Facebook.  before I leave this mortal coil.  That would be nice,  I look forward to it.

I love you all.  And I really hope you all enjoy intermingling together. There is a mix of sschool friends, work friends, best friends,  I love you all.

Happy Mothers Day

Yes a very special day for all you Mums out there.  I used to love making a fuss of my Mum.  Unfortunately I can't do that anymore, but I am hoping that those, that can, make the most of  their 'Mum' time.

On Sunday I was very spoilt.  My lovely DH gave me a lovely card, he wrote me a poem with special paper and one of his special fountain pens and gave me the Evolve Anzac Poppy Charm to add to my collection.  I am so spoilt.

I also have some craft books coming, but unsure of what they are as yet.I can't wait to see.

Understanding how this blogging business works!

We will get it right yet people.  If you enter a comment on my blog and it doen't appear at first, dont be concerned.  You are not doing anything wrong.  I have got comment moderation set up, to stop spammers.  So I get to read everything first, so that there is nothing left that may cause concern to other people.  There are so odd-bods out there, and I would hate people to leave something unsavoury or cause offence.  Especially someone I don't know.

Be patient, and if your comments are fine and dandy, your comments will eventually show up   I am online pretty much every day  :-) So you are not doing anything wrong, it may just be a delay on my part.

So have a fantastic day and be happy....I know I am :-)

Home from our wee holiday

Yes we are home from Napier and what a peaceful few days away it as too.

Napier is a lovely place.  Wouldn't rave about it, but lovely all the same.  I really love the palm trees lining the road...very Rodeo Drive.  Actually reminds me of the trees the Tui loves to climb.  Just as well we didn't take her with us. The weather was just beuatiful...awesome Autumn you might say.

We did all the touristy things...winerys, craft shops, went to the National Aquarium, where the most fantastic looking fish can be found.
.

This is the holiday house we stayed in...look at the sky, not a cloud.  So warm and sunny.

And look at the beautiful Hibiscus growing....Haven't seen one growing since I used to go holidaying up in the Bay of Islands.  Fantastic flowers.

We went up to Bluff Hill too look out over the Port. Lovely up there, warm and not a breath of wind.

It was nice to look out over the Port and just enjoy the day, the flowers and the weather.

I would have been interested seeing how that ship managed to get in that position on the wharf. A bit of a tight squeeze. Not a small ship and not a large space.

So many beautiful coloured flowers up there.  I liked these ones most.

Families of quails were up there fossicking around the bedding of the flowers.

We went to Mission Estate Wines.  Lovely there.  An old Monastry in a beautiful state.  I love old buildings that have been looked after.

The area looking at you as you drive in as you drive in....  very posh.

The front I guess - where you can't drive, but look out over the vineyards  I always wonder how they curtail the testing.  There was one woman staggering around.  Thats a good look :-)

The next day we went to the National Aquarium of New Zealand.

It was awesome there with plenty of varieties of fish and sealife to look at. Some Piranha were eager to be models.

As was a couple of Water Dragons.

Other highlights of my trip was finding beautiful cupcakes, the Silky Oak Chocolate factory and eating Tiramasu, only because I wanted to and I could.  So soft and creamy
  and delicious.  YUM!!

Lastly I had to do some shopping.  Not many shops to describe, but I managed to visit JJs Crafts and the Emporium.

I brought a sweet sewing book, with a few ideas on making things for Nadia, some trims, embroidery scissors,  a decorative hook, some wool to make my LHN Sheep Virtues, some pins, a kit to make for Nadia, some buttons and a stitching hoop.

So thats all that happened on our time away.  It was a great few days, And our pets were sure glad to see us when picked up from the boarding kennels.

Hope you all had a great few great days at you place.

Sunflowers, Cupcakes and a pot of tea or coffee....anyone?

These school holidays I have been extremely lucky as I have a helper who will do the necessary cupcake runs for me.   I'm not usually into such regular decadence but I think why not?????? (and some of the pills I am on make me want to eat all the time - thank goodness the weight isn't piling on. We have found a cafe that sells beautiful large cupcakes, so whenever DH or DD go to the shops, they will bring me back an awesome cupcake.

So I then pop on a pot of Green Emerald Chai or Black Creme Brulee Tea from T Leaf T here in Wellington.  Yum!!!!

I have a couple of cupcake pictures to stitch up, which shouldn't take long, to add to my fascination with these little gems of sweetness.

One of my best friends, Kara, who I love so much, was down in Wellington on a meeting the other day. She caught the train from Wellington up to where I live and I was so thrilled to see her. Actually it made me cry, and I was worried about her seeing me. But Kara being Kara she saw nothing different in me. Love it.

She brought me the most perfect beautiful sunflower which just brightened my day....not that it was a sad day by any means, but because it had been drizzly and murky all day.

Sunflowers are beautiful aren't they...so happy and bright.

Here are the latest Just Nan purchases I have made.  I am thinking of making Sunny Summer Happy Garden into a bag for my wee Ipod.  But it has the beautiful pin with it, so will have to work out a way of securing it, so   A:  I don't get scratched or   B: neither does my Ipod.

And here is an update on the quilt blocks I started the other day.  I have done all the applique on the block, and now I am blanket stitching them onto 2 cushions, which are on my sofas.  Eventually I will have a few different looking cushions to brighten up the area.  Which is always good.

You might also notice that my 50 projects list is slowly coming to an end from when I started it in 2007 (LOL).  Well I didn't follow it very well.  But it was fun to have the list in my side bar.  Always interesting to look back at what I have done, even though I do keep a dated record of everything I start and complete.  Does that surprise anyone??

Now I have a request for my visitors, readers.  Please get yourselves a GMail account or something where you can comment on my blog.  Its not much point visiting, and I don't know about it.  I have got a few emails from people saying they have been there at the blog but don't know what to do , or want to respond but can't or are unsure of what to do.  Its not hard, and I would love to know when you have passed by...because at this point I don't know.  I am not faultless and have to answer a couple of emails, myself so will get onto that this afternoon.

I am not using face book, so please don't leave messages there, I realised who my friends/people interested in my life were after I stopped using it..  If I have important news, I don't know whether you have got it or not.  This blog is important to me, and I hope my friends feel the same, but how can I know all the time.  I don't want to offend anyone over this, but it is starting to annoy me

I am sure you can understand where I am coming from, and the whole cancer thing is tough....but this blog is my link with the outside world.

This afternoon, my plan, answer the emails and continue on with my quilt blocks before we take my baby back to boarding school tonight.  These holidays have gone fast for my little ray of sunshine, that's for sure, but its been good.  Its always an interesting drive over the Rimutaka Hills to Masterton, and in the darkness its all the more excititng (NOT!).

Love you all and I really appreciate you coming to visit.  You are all a blessing to me :-)

The Happy Hens are hatched

I have been painting of late.  Another one of my passions.  This time it is Happy Hens from Portobello in Dunedin.  I brought a couple of Happy Hans in unpainted state to colour myself. Painting is really relaxing I find.  So here they are...I think theses are Pepper Shakers....they have the letter P on the front.  It was a lucky dip of what you ended up with to paint.

I think my Ipad showed the colours ok...one hen is orange and the other is a jade/teal colour.

Still busy with the All Cooped Up Quilt blocks.  They really are fun to work on.  Really enjoying it.  Bit of a chicken theme happening here I think.

Also busy stitching on the  Little Sheep Virtues Flock - another nice relaxing stitch.

Getting ourselves prepared for our little break away in Hawkes Bay/ Bay of Plenty region.  I can't wait to see all my friends around there...farming and stitching, who have contacted me.  I am kind of surprised there are a few people who have made no contact.  Thats ok...busy lives etc, or maybe its in the too hard basket to see me.....  Life is good regardless.

Have a great week everyone

Next on the list

Before I reveal my next project/s I just have to say the day is just stunning.  The sun is shining, and there is a slight breeze.  I can hear the birds twittering and tweeting and I can also hear DH trimming hedges around the propery, but it doesn't take away from the beauty of the day.  My daughter is hidden in the basement playing computer games...I think this is what they do...She will get her dose of Vit D soon when she takes Keira for a walk, so alls good there.

Me well I am feeling fighting fit.  And I will continue to do so...Its all good  :)

My new project....quilting blocks.  Last year I brought a couple of Ryan McKenna quilt blocks from the All Cooped Up pieced quilt set.

The two I broought are 'Sunny Perch' - an adorable wee chick on a sunflower and 'Struttin'  a magnificent rooster in all his glory.

I cut out the pattern pieces this morning, so will start on the fabric this arfternoon.  I will do both at the same time .... makes it a bit easier for me with getting equipment out.

I hope you are all having a productive Saturday afternoon at your place.

Colour for the kitchen.

They are finished.  The dishcloths......and they are really colourful.  It as nice and relaxing knitting them, and I even found a small ball of left over plain cotton in my wool bag, that I added into the 4th (left-over balls)  dishcloth.

Last night we hit the mall in Lower Hutt to buy my daughter some much needed clothes....esp. in the underwear/socks/essentials for school department.

The bonus with the shopping it pretty much cost nothing.  I do online surveys and get rewarded with shopping vouchers.  Other than a few things on sale - cardi, jeans, tops and shoes - the rest was free.  Plus our big dept. store Farmers had a very good lingerie dept sale, so that came in handy, for adding to the bargain.

Another bonus, the mall was fairly empty.

Heres what we got - there are a couple of items that I get from BooHoo for Nadia.  Boohoo is an online UK store that offers free postage to NZ.  I hav got a few things from there to date.  The clothes a slightly different to what you may find here and not expensive....suits us.  And Nadia is very easy to shop for, not overly demanding like a few  15 yr olds we have encountered.

Finally here is photo of the lovely maple tree in our front yard.  We have watched it change colour the 6 months we have been here.  We first saw it red, then green, orangy yellow, now back to red.  Waiting for the leaf fall for this tree and the many others surrounding our street.

Thanks for visiting, I hope you are having a wonderful week so far....Think I may go grab my small
T-Pot of Emerald Green Chai and sit in my sunny window and do some stitching for a change.

Slow Cooking Dinner is just awesome

Yukky miserable day and the slow cooker is my best friend, as generally  I am limited to what I can do in the kitchen these days,

Tonight we are having Coconut Chicken Curry.  It smells so good wafting from the kitchen.

Still knitting the dish clothes.  The first one I knitted isn't as big as the 2nd one, so I crocheted a band around the outside.  Onto the 3rd one now.  Then I may have enough cotton left over from the 3 balls I have to crocheted a dish cloth.

Finally, I treated myself to some Just Nan kits I have had on my ONS wishlist for ages, and in as usual good business from this company, I just waited a week and they were here.

I didnt publish a photo when they first arrived, so here is one now.

A productive yesterday

Well I have a few stitched finishes, so thought I would get out the sewing machine and do the final finishing.

First up here is the first completed dishcloth.

Here is my first Christmas ornament for 2013.  A real cutie and a very quick stitch.  Actually finished in 2011.

Just a Quickie - Peace - Amy Bruecken Designs

This next one is for my smalls basket and it is a design I stitched in 2002, but wasn't sure how to finish it.  I love the backing fabric  I used, and the gold flower charm, gives a nice finish to it.  I cant even remember where I got the design...a magazine I think.

Pinwheel Daisy

The final design is by Tralala and I made into a small flange cushion.

Petites Maisons Rouges - Tralala

Well I hope you have enjoyed my latest photos, I certainly enjoyed finishing them all up yesterday.
Happy stitching to you all.

A new project

Hello Everyone,

Once again I had a weeks rest in hospital to get my medication sorted out.  And a few tests done on the sideline.

News is good and bad.  Cancer from neck down is all controlled, cancer in brain is out of control.  We are tackling this with chemo pills which I take twice a day at home.  They have given me a life time frame, but I wont dwell on that at the moment - just say between 6 and 12 months - but that is worse case scenario, and you all know I will fight this, so it will be longer.  I am feeling so much better after a rest..  I would much rather email people than talk on the phone, because I am finding some people too depressing.  I want happiness and sunshine not doom and gloom.  :)  But every ones wishes are more than welcome.

I didn't take any craft stuff to hospital except for one small Tralala piece which I will sew up and post shortly.  Before I went into hospital my DH brought me a lovely smalls baskets to display any smalls or ornaments I get stitched before I go.  So that is giving me incentive to stitch littlies.

While away I DH brought me a lovely footstool to elevate my legs and feet while resting and stitching.
Lovely soft leather....Oooh....my cat Tui loves it too.  A bit hard to get her balance though.

DH also brought me a lariat necklace/bracelet to go with my NZ Evolve Charm collection.  I also got the bead 'Aroha' and the silver charm "Devotion' ...I have put these charms on the lariat with the silver charm 'Forever' that DH brought me last.

I just love Evolve, and other than the small sheep charm, I have never added any other type of charm available.  I only added the sheep I got, because its cuter than the Evolve one.

Righto onto my latest project....cotton dishcloths.  Decided to get out some knitting cotton, and knit some up.  They are great, last a long time and can just be thrown in the washing machine.  Also the great thing is they take no time at all to knit up.  And a great project because the days are getting cooler.

Something to look forward to, next month, DHs employers have shouted a few nights away in Napier, to rest and relax.  I cant wait.  Funnily its one of the only places in NZ I have never been too.  I have been to Hastings but not Napier.  Hopefully there are a few stitching/quilting/craft shops someone could recommend to me.

Hope you are having a lovely day.  Look forward to comments and emails :)

Tiredness overcame me

Well what can I say, tiredness got the better of me.  In between snoozes I did manage to do little bits and pieces of stitching.

I finished the stitching of LHN Little Sheep Virtues No. 1 (Hope),

And I was able to make a start on LHN Little Sheep Virtues No.2  (Love).

Not entirely sure how I will make these up....singley as little pillows, but the ultimate finishing has got me a little bit stumped.

I also sorted out some wool to knit up a few projects, and went through all my stitching stash to see what I can
start on

continue stitching on with.

I have a few Just Nan projects I would love to starting in the not to distant future -  well they are on order from my favourite ONS.....Honey Bunny, Cute Hoots Ollie and Percy and 8 point Star Garden to name a few.   When they arrive I will post a photo.  Even the packets are so colourful.

I was such a Just Nan fan, and did Last Stitches and almost finished First Stitches.  Both are to be completely finished and made up.

My next post will be a little more productive.  Fingers crossed.

March IHSW

Its that time again when its the International Hermit and Stitch weekend (IHSW).  I haven't been doing much stitching of late because I think all the radiation and chemo is starting to catch up with me, so I have been sleeping a lot.  This weekend can hopefully be a catch up weekend of stitching.

I plan to finish LHN Little Sheep Virtues No. 1 (Hope), and maybe start No.2 (Love) or else continue on with either Black Cat or The Flock.  I will see how I feel - if I can stay awake long enough.  I was doing so well with my stitching there for a while - I hope this is just temporary.

See you after the weekend.

A lovely giveaway

As I was looking at all the crafters blogs I follow, I got a link to Barbaras blog, and she is giving away a lovely Kathy Barrick chart, some linen and some thread.  Pop over and have a look - click here.

Feeling really tired after chemo, so I have had a bit of a rest from stitching.  Will update soon.

Fountain pens, travels and stitching

It seems like a while since I last posted, its only been a week.

My DH collects fountain pens and enjoys writing with them. He had found a set of instructions on the internet on how to make display/storage boxes.  We got the necessary things from Spotlight (CD gift boxes and stiff felt) and I set about making 3 boxes.

DH is very happy with them and now his pens can be kept safe and sound.

On Saturday we went for a 4WD trip up in the Akatarawa Forest Park, behind Upper Hutt up to Orange Hut with a Wellington 4WD group.  We haven't been out driving for ages, and the weather was lovely, so made for a really nice day.

I have been doing stitching on all sorts of projects - The Flock and Black Cat, here is progress update on Black Cat.

I have also made a start on LHN Little Sheep Virtues - Hope, which I will photograph when I have done a bit more.

Tonight we are off to the movies.  Its a fundraiser organised by the Wellington Police Dog Handlers Section for a fellow dog handler from Hamilton who has to raise $90,000 for surgery overseas on a brain tumour he has.  We are watching the latest Die Hard movie at a small boutique picture theatre in Upper Hutt.  Should be good.

How I got on with the Hermit Weekend

I think I was fairly productive.  In between naps on the sofa and helping out in a simplified way in the garden, and a trip to the tip,  and browsing in my favourite on-line needlework supplies store, I managed to do quite a bit of stitching.

I continued on with The Flock all day on Saturday.  It was a lovely sunny day and almost too good to be sitting inside, but that is pretty much where I stayed on the sofa.

Here is the progress photo: (Doesn't seem all that much)

On Sunday, it was fairly overcast outside, but very warm.  I got up bright eyed and bushy tailed and made the executive decision to procrastinate as much as possible with stitching the flock, so I did everything but.

I helped DH tidy up around the garden.  THEN I started a new cross stitch design.

Its for Halloween...Black Cat by Brown House Studios.

Im not really a follower of Halloween, but I do love black cats, orange, witch and bat silhouettes and pumpkins.  I decided last year to stitch a heap of halloween inspired ornaments and brought a lovely Tawa ornament tree to hang them off.

See the wee bird on top -  that made it a must have.  Especially as the bird looks similar in shape to a kaka (one of our native parrots).

Now before I head off for another day of stitching, I will go and have a look at the blogs of some of the other peopl who signed up for IHSW weekend, and see how they got on.
